What is the best mountain bike under 500 and where to get it
Well this is the answer that I am trying to get for my mountain bike as I have a limited budget especially staying in India and trying to import one from either UK or USA. First of all the specialized mountain bikes go for more than 500 dollars.
Now the hard facts Importing a bike into India you will have to pay an import duty of close to 40- 50% and that will mean and additional amount which is half the price of the bike. 500 dollars anyway means something like 22000 rupees and with additional cost of Rs. 11000 this will easily be close to Rs33000 . That is a lot and I am sure that this will be something which will not be very easy on my pocket. Hence my aim to get the best mountain bike under 500 dollars.
Once the budget issue is out of the way , now I am trying to decide which one is the best mountain bike and I did search a bit on the internet for mountain bike reviews.
The full suspension bikes are the most expensive ones and I am not buying the full suspension bike and being in India I do not think I will be able to even use the full suspension to the hilt. These full suspension bikes are for those who have to do all sorts of rocky mountain biking. Well the roads in India can be bumpy and hence I can definitely use the full suspension but the prices definitely scared me off.
Here are some of the things that I am definitely considering and these are a must for good mountain bikes under 500.

No full suspension – I would love it however ! ! !
Size whether it should 17 inches or 19 inches. I will go for the 19 inches

Specialized Hardrock – Specialized A1 Premium Aluminium frame and the price is about 350 GBP.
Trek 3500 – Has a 21-speed drivetrain and costs about $360
Raleigh Mojave 5.0 – The brand name itself commands respect and I do not envisage anything less than extraordinary from this bike for sure.
Schwinn Protocol 1.0 26” Men’s Full-Suspension Mountain Bike – Full suspension frame and lightweight with aluminium frame. It has alloy rims and the cost is just within my budget which is $455.
Men’s Forge Sawback Hard-Tail 5xx Mountain Bike – Another really good bike.

These are some of the best entry level mountain bikes that are available in the US as well as UK and I finally settling for the Specilaized Hardrock..
And yes I did look at one that were offered by TI cycles( my patriotic feelings wanted me to do this , even though I knew the answer) but they are nowhere as compared to the US counterparts.
